Recently, the CIRP Engineering Research Center for Nuclear Facilities Decommissioning and Radioactive Waste Management has been approved as Provincial-level Innovation Platform.
Nuclear facilities decommissioning and radioactive waste management are significant components of both nuclear industry system and nuclear environmental protection system, which undertake the dual mission of ensuring safety and promoting development. CIRP, as one of the earliest institutions engaged in the research and engineering implementation of nuclear facilities decommissioning and radioactive waste management in China, has taken the lead in important national scientific research projects in this field and the decommissioning of China’s first nuclear facility.
Over the last two years, CIRP released the first ISO standard in the field of radioactive waste management Methodologies for Radioactivity Characterization of Very Low-Level Waste (VLLW) Generated by Nuclear Facilities, and successively won prizes awarded by Shanxi Province as well as China National Nuclear Corporation. Additionally, a large number of CIRP scientific research achievements have been widely used in fields of nuclear fuel, nuclear power, nuclear technology application, nuclear facility operation and decommissioning, etc. among which combustible waste pyrolysis incineration and design capability of decommissioning tools/equipment have been exported overseas.
The Engineering Research Center will fully integrate resources such as talent, technology and R&D, focusing on advantageous fields such as nuclear facilities decommissioning, radioactive waste management and disposal, and decommissioning safety, as well as promoting the practical application of innovative achievements, so as to make new contributions to the safety and sustainable development of the nuclear industry.
