Radioactive Waste Drum Non-Destructive Assay System based on a Modular Design Concept

Radioactive Waste Drum Non-Destructive Assay System based on a Modular Design Concept

Based on the modular design concept, two sets of high-purity germanium detectors are used to measure the activity and dose rate of cement solidified resin waste, cement solidified concentrated liquid, compressible solid waste such as contaminated clothing, floor sweepings, paper and plastic, and filters stored in a 200 L or 400 L radioactive waste drum in nuclear power plants.

According to user’s needs and actual situations, waste drum information such as types, densities and filling methods of the matrices can be added, modified and optimized. The system can be used for radioactive waste classification, activity analysis, and hot-spot positioning. Several waste drum scanning modes such as point scanning, vertical scanning, slice scanning, and helical scanning can be achieved to ensure that there is no omission in radioactivity measurement. Repeated scanning can be achieved in key areas.

The passive efficiency calibration method is used to characterize the high-purity germanium detector and model the entire system, which ensures the accuracy of the measurement results and achieves on-site calibration.
